Aerospace Model Order Reduction (MOR) - Specialist (Remote)

Join our client's innovative engineering team as a highly experienced Aerospace Model Order Reduction (MOR) Specialist. This project-based role focuses on developing and implementing advanced model order reduction techniques for aeroservoelastic (ASE) systems of flexible aircraft.

Your primary goal will be to create high-quality linear parameter-varying (LPV) reduced-order models (ROMs) that accurately capture vehicle dynamics across various flight conditions while significantly reducing computational complexity. You will collaborate closely with our client's engineering team and potentially external partners (e.g., NASA) to enhance the performance of aerospace systems, particularly in flutter suppression and gust load alleviation.

Specific Skills
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing MOR techniques for complex aerospace systems.
  • Strong background in linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems, aeroservoelasticity, and control theory.
  • Familiarity with tools and software used in aerospace modeling and simulation, such as MATLAB, Simulink, MSC/Nastran, and ZAERO.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Responsible For
  • Development of MOR Methodologies:
    • Design and implement a holistic MOR framework integrating sequential model reduction, consistent model representation, and model interpolation techniques.
    • Apply and refine reduction techniques such as truncation and residualization, modal reduction, and balanced realization and truncation to achieve optimal ROMs at grid points across the flight envelope.
    • Validate the accuracy and reliability of ROMs by comparing their input/output behavior and system response with full-order models in the frequency domain.
  • Consistent State Representation:
    • Develop and apply methods for consistent state representation among local ROMs, such as common subspace reprojection.
    • Perform orthogonalization of transformation matrices using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and other advanced techniques to prepare ROMs for interpolation.
  • Model Interpolation and LPV ROM Realization:
    • Implement parameter-weighted matrix interpolation techniques to construct global LPV ROMs applicable across the entire flight envelope. Validate the interpolated ROMs by comparing their performance with directly reduced ROMs at various flight conditions.
  • Application to Specific Aircraft Models:
    • Apply the developed MOR framework to specific example aircraft models to generate ROMs that accurately capture vehicle dynamics under various flight conditions.
    • Collaborate with our client's engineering team and external partners to ensure the ROMs meet the requirements for robust ASE controller synthesis and novel vehicle design.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Document the development process, methodologies, and results in detailed technical reports.
    • Provide regular progress updates and presentations to the project team and stakeholders.
